Owen Corning ®

We’re proud to offer materials from Owens Corning®, one of the oldest and most reliable manufacturers in the roofing industry. These cool roofs are designed to lower the temperature of a building by reflecting sunlight rather than absorbing the solar energy.

We also install the company’s innovative SureNail® strip, a tough-engineered woven-fabric nailing strip that will protect your roof from even the most volatile weather.

GAF ®

From light-weight roofing tiles, to solar reflective pigments, the cutting edge of research and development in roofing and waterproofing solutions can be found at GAF. They are reimagining the ways we live, creating better technology with practical applications to help protect what matters most.

Why Cool Roofs?

Beneficial to You

  • Reduction in air conditioning helps with reduction of energy bills

  • Decrease in roof temperature can help extend roof service

  • Non-air conditioned indoor areas may see improvement in comfort and safety

  • Helping inefficient air conditioners provide enough cooling during summer days

Beneficial to the Environment

  • Reduction of energy for cooling building decreases power plant emissions

  • Reflecting more sunlight to outer space can help offset global warming

  • Lowering local outside air temperatures can lessen the urban heat island effect and lose the formation of smog from air pollutants.

Conventional roofs can reach temperatures of 150ºF (and over) on a summer afternoon, and with the same conditions, cool roofs could stay more than 50ºF cooler. This change can help save energy and money for buildings with air-conditioning, and by reducing heat flow from roof to occupied space it can help improve comfort and safety in the building.

Questions To Ask Your Roofer

Do I need a metal valley on my roofline?

What size of metal valley do you provide?

Why type of wood do I use for my fascia board?

What paper do you use on the roof?

Layering of Roofs

There are multiple components of roofing to ensure protection, functionality, and comfort. From sheathing and insulation to underlayment and ventilation, each layer performs to withstand the nature outside while helping control humidity and temperature levels inside.

  • Radiant barriers are usually installed in attics to primarily reduce summer heat gain and reduce cooling costs.

  • A ridge vent, located at the peak of a roof, is a vent that allows for air to escape from a heated attic. While an eaves vent is meant to provide airflow into the attic space underneath the roof.

  • While CDX Plywood has layers making it a stable material, it is prone to water damages. It is a material mostly used for interior applications, while OSB, with its waterproofed properties, is preferred for roofing.
